Detailed Course Syllabus
The tables below represent a working syllabus for the System Dynamics
course. They list the primary subjects to be treated this semester
and the associated homework assignment that covers the material
on a particular topic. The topics listed directly follow your
System Dynamics Lecture Notes (indicated chapters refer to the
Lecture Notes). This syllabus is tentative and it will be modified
as required to meet the needs of this particular class.
There will be roughly six or seven homework sets and a major term
project for this course. During the first part of the semester,
the HWs are given at a rate of about one assignment per week (times
allocated may be adjusted slightly to account for the difficulty
of the particular assignment). The specific problems for each
assignment will be given in class and posted on the web as they
become available, and the due dates for the assignments will be
announced in class.
After completing Chapter 4 in the Lecture Notes and the midterm
exam, only a couple of additional standard HW assignments are
given. Instead, you are expected to be working on your comprehensive
course project, which involves the modeling, simulation, and analysis
of a specific dynamic system or process. The project requires
a formal proposal, a one-on-one meeting with the instructor to
discuss your project status, a formal final report, and a professional
oral presentation during the last few classes of the semester.
